Amish Life
Project type
Amish
Location
Western Wisconsin
An Amish family makes their way along a winding country road, heading to a wedding just a few miles up ahead. I chose to make this a low-contrast print, letting the quiet grays tell the story of the road and the land. The sky, washed in pale tones, mirrors the worn surface of the road-bleached by countless winters and the salt that keeps it passable for both modern
trucks and horse-drawn buggies alike. This is the Driftless Area of Wisconsin, a place untouched by the flattening of the last great glacier, yet deeply shaped by its melting. The hills and valleys here seem endless, rising and falling like waves frozen in time. On these roads, you'll find a shared rhythm between old and new-Amish families living simply, side by side with milk trucks collecting from small farms
nestled into the curves of the land. In this moment, captured in black and white, there's a quiet dignity in their journey. A
timelessness. A reminder that not all roads are fast, but some are rich with meaning.
